Sixth Annual Woods, Water and Wildlife Festival

MILTON
MILLS, NH – Moose Mountains Regional Greenways and UNH
Cooperative Extension will present the sixth annual Woods,
Water and Wildlife Festival on Saturday, August 2 from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. Underwritten by the Siemon Company and the
Carl Siemon Family Charitable Trust, this fun, educational
celebration of the natural world will take place at Branch
Hill Farm, 307 Applebee Road in Milton Mills, NH.
This year’s activities include:
- A live bluegrass concert performed by the Dave
Geddes Band.

- The ever-popular “Hayrides to the Salmon
Falls River,” where riders rendezvous at the
river with Dave Kellam of the NH Estuaries Project,
who will describe the connection between the river
and the Atlantic Ocean.

- Presentations on “New Hampshire Wildlife”
and “Have to Have a Habitat” by nature
experts from the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center.
Both presentations feature live animals.

- Ruth Scruton’s Traveling Barnyard, an interactive educational agricultural display.

- A field workshop in which participants can learn
how to “Identify Trees and Shrubs by their
Bark, Buds and Branches” presented by renowned
educator Phil Auger from UNH Cooperative Extension.

- A Corn Maze.

- UNH Cooperative Extension educators presenting
one of the school’s most popular workshops:
“Working Your Woodlot.”

- A pacing event organized by Piscataqua Hounds
on a beautiful, well-marked course along the Salmon
Falls and Branch Rivers for horsemen and women.

- Hands-on Wildlife Awareness Activities for kids facilitated by UNH Cooperative Extension Coverts Cooperators.

- A Kids Craft Corner featuring Matt Chagnon from
the UNH Thompson School, who will help parents cut
“tree cookies” for kids to paint and
decorate.

- A chance to win $1,000 at Cow Chip Bingo

- Plus displays that describe the history of Farming
in New Hampshire (presented by the NH Farm Museum),
how watersheds work (presented by the UNH Marine
Docents and the Action-Wakefield Watershed Alliance),
and ideas on how individuals can help change the world in which we live, with help from Global Awareness, Local Action (GALA).
