Ninth Annual Woods, Water and Wildlife Festival—Most Successful Ever!
Moose Mountains Regional Greenways recently held its 9th annual Woods, Water, and Wildlife Festival, to the delight of over 300 attendees who came to learn about the natural world, explore a corn maze, and enjoy hayrides and live music.
“More people participated this year than ever before,” said Cynthia Wyatt, managing trustee of Branch Hill Farm, which hosted and co-sponsored the event. “It seems like this festival gets bigger and better every year and we couldn’t do it without all the volunteers and presenters who donate their time to help make the day successful.”
Many individuals and groups contributed to the event’s success. The NH Department of Fish and Game gave presentations designed to teach participants about pond ecology, stocking ponds, fishing, bear habitat, and turtle identification. UNH Cooperative Extension offered walks in the woods that focused on tree identification and the riparian ecology along the Salmon Falls River. The Acton-Wakefield Watersheds Alliance displayed samples of invasive species and a watershed model, while the New Hampshire Farm Museum demonstrated the old-fashioned way to shell and grind corn. Squam Lakes Natural Science Center brought a rescued owl, turtle, and mink, and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests hosted a hike on the nearby Salmon Falls Headwater reservation.
The Woods, Water and Wildlife Festival is MMRG’s main fundraising event of the year and we are deeply grateful to the following businesses and individuals for supporting both the event and our organization:
