MMRG Annual Dinner Meeting Will Feature Naturalist
Moose Mountains Regional Greenways (MMRG) will hold its 2012 Annual Meeting on Monday, February 6, from 6 to 9 pm at the Wolfeboro Inn. This festive occasion will include a cocktail/social hour and silent auction, a served sit down dinner, a slide show and talk by well-known NH naturalist Dr. Rick Van de Poll, a presentation of MMRG’s second annual ‘Conservationist of the Year’ award, and a brief business meeting and update on MMRG news. February 7 is the snow date.
Dr. Van de Poll’s presentation on “Rare Plants and Natural Communities of the Moose Mountains Area” will offer a glimpse of some of the least recognized yet ecologically important features of our local landscapes. Rare natural communities arise from specific physical, chemical, and biological attributes that enrich the biodiversity of a particular region. The seven towns served by MMRG contain more than a dozen rare natural communities and over 40 species of rare plants. The featured pictorially rich slide show and talk will highlight some of these biodiversity gems.
The silent auction, which starts the program, provides entertainment during the social hour and serves as a fundraiser for MMRG. Local businesses and individual supporters donate the auction items. In past years, popular items have included: vacation getaways, locally made furniture, original art pieces and reproductions, homemade preserves, gourmet chocolates, gift certificates, hand-made clothing, and many other unique pieces.
The public is welcome to join this annual community celebration of Moose Mountains Regional Greenways, a non-profit land conservation organization serving Brookfield, Farmington, Middleton, Milton, New Durham, Wakefield, and Wolfeboro. If you would like to attend or have an auction to donate, please contact Executive Director Virginia Long by January 27. Call (603)755-1158 or send an email to info@mmrg.info. All proceeds support MMRG’s land conservation and educational outreach missions.
