June 24 Water Quality Cruise on Lake Winnipesauke

Moose Mountains Regional Greenways (MMRG) and the Wolfeboro-Tuftonboro Land Bank will sponsor a fun and educational cruise on the Winnipesauke Belle Charter Boat on Sunday, June 24. Two on-board water quality experts will teach participants about critical water quality issues in New Hampshire lakes and the Cottage Band will play live Celtic music during the boat rides out and back on Lake Winnipesaukee. The 2-hour cruise will leave the Wolfeboro Town Docks at 2pm.

Robert Craycraft of UNH Cooperative Extension (UNHCE) and Linda Schier of the Acton Wakefield Watersheds Alliance (AWWA) will be the on-board guides. As the UNHCE Educational Program Coordinator, Bob Craycraft coordinates the NH Lakes Lay Monitoring Program, in which volunteers track water quality changes in NH lakes, ponds, and streams. Linda Schier is a founding member and Executive Director of AWWA, which manages projects to reduce pollution to the waters of Wakefield, NH and Acton, ME, works to increase public awareness of water quality issues and conducts educational programs in area schools. The two will discuss recent studies of lakes in our region and how lakeside property stewardship can impact water quality. Participants will have an opportunity to collect water transparency data and to observe aquatic organisms collected during the cruise.

There will be ample opportunity to enjoy the scenery and live Celtic music by the 4-piece Cottage Band. The Winnipesauke Belle offers complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

Pre-registration is requested; the pre-paid cost is $25. Late registrants pay $30 at the gate. To pre-register, please send your check to MMRG, Box 191, Union, NH 03887 Attn: Cruise. For more information, call the Education Coordinator of Moose Mountains Regional Greenways at 603-978-7125 or email info@mmrg.info.
