Community Leaders Learn More about Land Conservation Techniques for Towns

FARMINGTON, NH—Community leaders from Farmington, New Durham, Wakefield, Rochester and other area communities attended a workshop about “Land Conservation Techniques for Municipalities” on August 11 in Farmington, NH. Moose Mountains Regional Greenways helped organize and promote the workshop with support from NH Estuaries Project.

Brenda Lind from the Center for Land Conservation Assistance and Amanda Stone from UNH Cooperative Extension Services described the preliminary steps involved with organizing and implementing local land conservation initiatives and fielded questions from the audience. Participants were particularly interested in identifying and prioritizing lands to be conserved, setting up a system to manage the steps involved in a conservation transaction, and securing the funding needed to complete conservation transactions. Lind and Stone also described the benefits to municipalities of collaborating with conservation professionals – such as those available through local land trusts and conservation organizational like Moose Mountains Regional Greenways.
